The Wilderness Rifle uses an ultra-reliable CRF action. The base rifle weight is light (approx. 6.5 Lbs) and overall length is compact (approx. 37 inches including muzzle brake). From this starting point a shooter can equip the rifle for his/her expected uses and preferences. The extended optic rail features ultra-secure attachment to the receiver and allows for mounting a wide variety of sights. The above rifle features a 1-4x illuminated reticle rifle scope with a 4 ring mount for security and protection. A QD light can be mounted as needed (positive target ID is always required). Re-enforced sling studs allow for a wide variety of carry straps and shooting slings to be used. The above rifle features a three point sling from Andy's Leatherworks. The twin forearm studs allow for Ching slings as well.
The WR uses single point in-line feeding for smoothness and reliability. The rifle feeds from 5 and 10 round detachable box magazines for their capacity and single point feed reliability. There is a serious drawback to using DBMs in the field; they can be lost or fall out of the rifle when the gun is brought up into a shooting position. This is a very serious problem with rifles which use long tail magazine releases. Since the rifle is carried far more than it is fired during wilderness activities it is critical that the magazine stay securely seated in the rifle when in Is handled, carried and transported. When empty chamber carry is used for safety and the bolt is worked for a first quick shot, the first round will not feed if the magazine is not properly seated/locked in the rifle, or missing from the rifle. To assure this does not occur the DLS Inc custom WR uses low profile magazine release levers AND a selective magazine release LOCK. The lock can be selectively used/not used depending on your environment. It is keyless and can be finger operated. Once a magazine is fully seated in place, the lock can be finger turned into a snug closed position. This will lock the magazine release closed and prevent loss of your magazine during rough country activity. The lock can also be turned into the snug open position which will allow quick ambidextrous operation of the magazine release as usual. |

A high quality compass is mounted into the stock of the WR in a recessed and protected position. The compass features an illuminated dial for night observation. Cartridge carriers can also be stock mounted to allow on board carry of extra ammunition. Illuminator rounds can be carried for true emergencies where signaling is required. |

The WR can be fitted with a spigot mount to allow quick installation/removal of a 2.9 oz LW bipod when added shooting support is required. |

For shooters who do not want a full size sling, a handy strap is very low profile and buckle free. The handy strap allows for full use of both hands for quick climbing, swimming, ect by simply putting one's forearm through the strap and carrying the rifle on the forearm. (empty chamber and muzzle control are required). The handy strap also makes for an excellent flexible vertical grip. This allows shooters to support the rifle with a vertical fist in contact with a support object. For left hand shooters with a right hand action the strap allows a quick grab point without getting wrapped up in a sling. This allows the shooters right hand to quickly come back and operate the bolt handle while the left hand stays in a shooting grip. |
