D&L Sports™ Custom CQB Carbine Test and Evaluation;
Dave Lauck is a one man show who makes his rifles and pistols one at a time to a standard rivaled only by NASA engineers. His resume would take up all the space allotted for this article. Dave turned the simple AR carbine into simply amazing. The subdued masterpiece looked too good to be true. At first touch the D&L carbine felt like a used bar of soap - smooth - not a sharp edge anywhere....the details were functional works of art. The D&L muzzle brake design reduces muzzle climb so much it felt like shooting a rimfire rifle. The D&L rear sight is built Mac truck tough. Dave's iron sights are smoother to transition to than any other sights I have tried....very natural and extremely fast. You have to try the trigger to truely appeciate it, it makes the carbine sniper rifle accurate. The D&L AR magazines are designed to function in the harshest of environments. The D&L carbine gobbled up all the ammo we fed it without as much as a hiccup....100% reliable and super accurate. |

| Dave Lauck has the well earned reputation of building some of the finest custom firearms in the country. The D&L Sports™ 1911 Longslide Professional Model is a true custom handgun with superb fit and finish. Our first impression of the D&L pistol was the overall quality. D&L firearms are constructed and adjusted to as reliable as any mechanical device can possible be. There are no short cuts at D&L. The care in construction of D&L firearms shows. Our inspection revealed the timing and lock up were perfect...a superb example of gunsmith's art. D&L's 1911 mag well funnel is integral with the frame, not an add on, a nice touch. The D&L pistol's operation was exceptionally smooth right from the box. D&L Professional Model pistols have features that set them apart from other custom 1911 type pistols. One of these features is enhanced durability sights. These sights aren't going anywhere, unlike front dovetail sights, which can be knocked out of adjustment and cause large changes in point of impact. The trigger on our test Pro Model broke like snapping a piece of glass, with no creep or backlash. Sand cuts are unique to D&L custom pistols, and many SF operators buy their own D&L firearms for use in the sandbox. Dave Lauck also solved the 1911s extractor problem with his Tanto extractor design, a worthwhile addition to any 1911. Dave also uses a locking firing pin stop, another one of those small, but critical reliability details that set D&L 1911s apart from the rest. Shooting the D&L 1911 was a pleasure. The pistol functioned with total reliability and superb accuracy. The D&L Professional Models aren't cheap, but Dave Lauck's custom 1911s are as good as custom pistols get. |

| From Iraq to Afghanistan, the current conflict has validated the 1911 .45 automatic. Those who have them there cherish them. Some want them badly enough to pay for the very best. Built for combat, Dave Lauck's 1911 is smooth, accurate, and utterly reliable. The gun tested here is Lauck's Professional Model. The pistol uses heavy duty fixed night sights of Lauck's own design, some of the best that are out there. A special slot is cut for the front sight, with room for three locking screws, and absolutely lock the sight in place. In operation, " The feel is there". The guns trigger broke at a crisp 4 pounds. As is typical with Lauck guns, racking the slide was an exercise in smoothness that harkens back to the national match pistols of the past. I have had a custom Lauck pistol for years and it has proven itself to be a 1" gun at 25 yards. The test pistol fired three shot groups of the ammo it liked best into .65", and .90" at 25 yards. We put many hundred rounds through the pistol and there were no malfunctions of any kind. The melted and rounded edges of the Lauck pistol kept it from digging into my side during concealed carry. The rounded edges were a blessing. The Lauck professional model was comforting and comfortable. What premium would you pay for the kind of life insurance that keeps you alive? It's more expensive, but I'm worth it. |

You have built me the finest pistol I have ever had in my hands as wlll as the finest one I have ever seen. It is reliable, accurate and a pleasure to behold. Over the last 30 years I have owned pistols built by just about every pistolsmith you can name and by far yours is the finest!! Its good that plenty of our warriors are getting some good shooting training with you. It's been my experience that we get the best shooting training at private facilities. My D&L 45 shoots great. I've used it for 8 years and put thousands of rounds through it, including a few courses with Clint Smith, who was also shooting a .45 you had built.

I put my 1911 through it's paces this weekend while visiting my uncle's ranch in Lander. Function was flawless and it's more accurate than I can shoot it, at least for now. My uncle who has many custom 1911s was very impressed and more than a little jealous. You do great work and I thank you for it. |
