Dave Lauck
has received many requests to design a line of service knives with
the same rugged, field practical design concepts used in D&L
firearms. Here they are. |
D&L fixed
blade service knives are available in 5", 7" and 9"
blade lengths. They feature full tang construction with high carbon
1095 steel. These knives are differentially heat treated to allow
for both knife toughness and edge retention. |
These knives
are a full 1/4" thick in the spine and all the way through
the handle area. You will notice the stout blade is precision ground
into two straight line cutting edges, a long straight cutting edge
and a straight line angled point cutting edge. This Dave Lauck
design feature is not only to provide excellent cutting action,
it is to allow for simple maintenance of the cutting edges. These
knives are designed for hard use, not for nonuse due to the fear
of edge damage like so many curved edge designs. The straight edge
design of these knives allows for easy sharpening on guided hand
sharpening systems. Keeping a keen edge on these knives is simple,
even without being an experienced knife sharpener. Simple enough
to complete even under field conditions. This design allows you
to use the knife hard, then bring it back to a fine edge without
ever having to send it off for professional sharpening. |
These
knives offer other important design features: a serrated cutting
edge section for rope or webbing, a tapered/curved point for strength
and on-centerline thrusting, an angled thumb stop for use with
a saber grip, an index finger recess in front of the guard to allow
for a close cutting grip, and an index finger recess behind the
guard to allow proper indexing and locating of the knife. This
finger grip area also serves as a subhilt for positive withdrawal
and control of the knife. The birds head butt design allows for
superior hand positioning, a positive draw from the sheath, and
over all control of the knife. The black micarta handle slabs are
nonslip, super rugged, and triple crossbolted in place for durability.
Lanyard hole positioning is optimum for securing the knife to your
grip. |
Overall steel
knife finish is black, with aluminum training models also available. |
The steel
knives are serial numbered for collector value and identification
purposes. Special requests have been made for matching knife firearm
sets. This is occasionally a possibility. |
Method of
carry is just as critical as the knife itself in many situations.
Dave Lauck has designed a Kydex carry sheath for the service knives
which allows for horizontal small-of-the-back carry. This superior
positioning of the knife allows for secure, comfortable long term
carry. It also allows for a lightning fast draw. |
The sheaths
are designed to allow right or left hand carry. The precision used
in making these sheaths even allows for two sheaths to be attached
together in a manner which allows two knives to be carried with
one handle positioned for right hand draw, and the other for left
hand draw. |
The sheath
can be easily disassembled for cleaning out dirt and debris. The
sheaths can also be lashed in place on web gear when SOB carry
is not favored. |
Special
Note:
Knives carried for special purposes are best NOT utilized for daily
chores, like opening cardboard boxes. This will help assure a keen
edge is maintained for times of need. |
