| Ruger's concept of a lightweight, small frame AR style rifle chambered in .308 - 7.62 is a good idea. However, shooters have learned by hands on experience that the functional reliability and quality control of the factory rifle have been problematic. | Field experienced shooters know that a rifle is often carried and handled far more than it is fired. During hiking, biking,camping, riding four wheelers, horse scabbard carry, and getting in and out of the truck, etc., it is possible to unknowingly activate the magazine release on rifles and lose the magazine and ammo when you need them most. To solve this problem DLS has designed, and can incorporate a magazine lock into the receiver of the rifle. This allows shooters to insert and lock in place a loaded magazine. The lock prevents the magazine release button from releasing the magazine, unless it is purposefully unlocked first. Locking or unlocking the magazine does not require tools, it can be done by hand in seconds. Then conventional loading and unloading can be resumed. The lock can be used or not as the situation dictates. |
