Longslide 1911 pistols gained popularity in the 1970s as target pistols. They gained movie fame in the 1980s due to Michael Mann’s movie called “Thief”, staring James Cann, followed by the longslide with laser sighting used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original “Terminator” movie. In 2009 a set of state of the art D&L 1911 longslide pistols were featured in the blockbuster movie "Watchmen".
These pistols have a distinctive profile, a longer sight radius, and dampened recoil. However, they can have some serious drawbacks if they are not properly designed and constructed. The extra slide length adds weight and can cause the pistol to operate sluggish. Recoil spring availability can be problematic due to the odd slide lengths. The original target sights are fragile.
DLS Inc. has perfected the 1911 longslide and offers it in the original D&L Professional Model line of 1911 pistols. DLS Pro Model longslides are designed to operate snappy, with ultra-reliability and with commonly available 5” 1911 recoil springs. You get the look of the longslide’s profile, increased sight radius and bullet velocity, dampened recoil, and superior accuracy. Selecting the octagon machine work to the slide creates a unique look, and a sleek slide with less weight than a standard 5” pistol slide.
