Dave,
I just wanted to say that the rifle has been incredible to shoot. I was able to get out to the range and get it sighted in and it shoots like a dream. Once I had it finally all set up I was shooting some really good groups and I even put a penny up at 200 and hit it first shot. I haven't had a chance to really get it out longer than that but I will here in the coming week. Everyone that I have shown the rifle to has been in awe with how it looks. I work at a gun shop part time and I brought it in and every single person was looking it over. Several gun smiths work for this company and they all amazed about the quality and design of the rifle. I will be getting out this next week and will be really shooting it a lot. So far shooting the rifle has been truly awesome and I can't wait to get out to shoot it more. I will be sending a bunch of pictures soon.
Thanks again

DL,
Here is my range report on my D&L precision gas gun: I have started using a tripod with my D&L precision AR. A friend that is retired 5th group SF used one a lot in Syria and gave me a mini clinic on some of the fine points. I shot a sub half MOA group off the tripod yesterday at 750 yds The D&L gas gun is accurate !

Professional Grade Rifle Carry Harness

There have been many rifle sling designs that have come and gone over the years. Some for specialized carry, and others more generalized. Many have both good and bad points. One complaint that was repeatedly heard from shooters was that during even mild physical exertion they would have to hold the rifle sling on their shoulder to keep it from slipping off. This is bothersome and can be very dangerous. The problem became so well known that some vendors made snap straps that attached the rifle sling to other web gear worn by the shooter to hold the rifle in place on the shoulder. This is not a good solution because it caused the rifle to be slower into action, and retention on the shoulder was still less than solid. Other methods of sling carry were devised, including center of the back carry. Most of these methods came with their own set of problems, including getting hit in the back of the head with the rifle barrel, the rifle was slow into action, and COB carry was often complicated and resulted in tangled sling straps. COB carry with unshaped straps was slow to get into and out of.

DLS Inc. focused on a long overdue solution for sling carry that would be field practical, stable during heavy exertion, fast to deploy, and simple to return to sling position. It was very important that the shooter, from any position, could move his head in all directions, including uphill viewing, and not hit his head on the rifle barrel. Considering all the lessons learned from live deployments, extensive training, high level competition and ITRC shooting, a center of back carry harness with rifle stand-off system was developed. This would make the rifle very comfortable to carry, stable in fast action environments and allow for a full range head movement. The semi rigid profile of the sling harness system allows the shooter to get into and out of the sling very quickly, and without getting tangled up in the loose strapping that is used in many sling designs. The center of back sling carry developed for tactical long guns is now simple and heavy duty. It is of course removable for activities not requiring such a system. It does not interfere with using other types of slings when they are more appropriate for specialty missions.

The Center of Back harness with rigid rifle stand-off does have to be specified at the beginning of a custom rifle build to assure all the correct anchor points are built into your custom rifle project. Cost varies with types of materials specified and type of rifle.

Safety Note: For the highest level of safety, firearms should be carried un-cocked and with an empty chamber.

Good shooting,

Enhanced AI magazines for bolt action rifles
Magazines are a critical part of your shooting system. You should only use magazines fitted to and tested in your exact rifle for serious purposes. Steel AI box magazines are quality base magazines. However, experience has revealed that they work best when they are enhanced by fitting and tuning them to function most reliably. 2020 and newer D&L MR30 rifles come equipped with enchanced AI magazines.(The base plate is inscribed with a small E for easy identification). Enhanced magazines start with new AI steel magazines. The feed lips are reshaped, contoured, radiused and polished. This work commonly solves the feeding problems with many rifles. Then the magazines are refinished for corrosion protection. Cost for enhanced short action magazines: $145 including the base magazine.

Dave,
I got an opportunity to test out the MR-30 PG rifle in a more controlled environment without any extreme wind.
First round center mass impact at 1,475 yards, and later in the mercurial mountain wind, center mass 1,650 yard impact.
I may not be the best precision shooter on the planet. However, I have shot quite a few rifles. And I can say with confidence that the MR-30 is the most comfortable and accurate I’ve ever fired. Its so much more refined than the Cheytac I’m accustomed to, and I love it.
You are so much more than a gunsmith. You are an artist and a master of your craft. Thank you so much.
Long Range Precision Shooter

Bolt action rifle shooters should understand the difference between push feed bolt actions and controlled round feed bolt actions. If you are operating a controlled round feed bolt action (CRF) you should always load the chamber by cycling cartridges into the chamber from the magazine. Do not direct load a cartridge into the chamber by hand, then close the bolt over the cartridge case head. This stresses the extractor. If it is not an emergency situation, do not do it.

As a safety measure, if you are using a bolt action rifle with the fine trigger, do your movements and transports with an empty chamber. In shooting position, keep your bolt handle fully raised as a mechanical safety until you have determined the need to fire.

Warning: Muzzle Brakes and Suppressors

If you have a muzzle brake or similar muzzle device on your rifle and you decide to remove it to install something different, IT IS CRITICAL that a gunsmith firmly grips the barrel with a barrel vise just behind the muzzle brake while turning off the muzzle brake. DO NOT attempt to remove a loctited muzzle brake from the barrel without using this proper barrel holding procedure. Failure to do so may cause the barrel to fully or partially unscrew from the action. DANGER: firing a rifle with even a slightly unscrewed barrel can cause case rupture, injury and or death. Get professional assistance with these matters. If you are planning on running a suppressor, do not have a muzzle brake hard mounted during custom rifle construction. Simply request a threaded muzzle with a thread protector. If you do run a suppressor you MUST confirm barrel bore to suppressor alignment is proper before firing the rifle. You must not use non rigid suppressor mounts. Failure to rigidly mount and align your suppressor with the bore can cause a baffle strike by the bullet and injury or death. If you rigidly mount and align the suppressor with the barrel bore, Loctite it in place, and intend to leave it in place for the life of the barrel, make sure you do not clean the rifle with patches. Only use bronze brushes and bore mops, or you will lodge a patch in the suppressor and cause a dangerous obstruction. Get professional assistance and advice with these matters!

D&L MR-30 PG - Precision Bolt Action Rifles

Now available in calibers from 6mm through .338 Lapua in compact, standard size, and long range models.

A two rifle concept for the tactical marksman is taught at for one reason. It Works. The MR-30 PG is the longer range half of the concept.

The MR-30 PG rifle package was developed for the most discriminating precision marksman after decades of research, testing, and development by Dave Lauck and other professionals. This rifle is not an attempt at duplicating any other rifle, it was designed from the ground up as the most rugged, repeatable, and accurate precision field rifle available anywhere.

One of the most popular chamberings for this package is .308 Winchester. There are several reasons for this chambering: accurate factory loaded match grade ammunition, a factory loaded bonded core tactical round applicable for barrier penetration with minimal fragmentation and a similar close range trajectory to the match load, long accurate barrel life, minimal recoil, acceptable trajectory pattern for the moderate ranges commonly encountered during tactical operations in a civilian environment. .308 Winchester has long been established as a proven accuracy cartridge. Other chamberings are popular too: 6mm, 6.5mm, .338 LM.

The MR-30 PG rifle system is completed on a new DLS Signature or magnum action in the caliber of choice. The actions used have been selected for their reliability, accuracy, and overall quality. Total weight and length of the completed rifle depends on customer request, selected options, and barrel contour. The expected use environment should be a consideration when requesting an approximate weight. Weight range is normally 7 - 27 pounds. A stout rifle is ultra stable in the field and the MR-30 PG's optional rugged carry handle makes the system quite portable. The full length (Operator removable) carry handle also provides excellent scope protection and an area for camo and accessory attachment. Lightweight MR-30 rifles are available with no handle.

Cost was not a major consideration in determining what components were selected to develop the MR-30 rifle. Components were selected based solely on their ability to achieve the overall goal of the system: a superbly rugged and accurate field rifle. Cost of the finest components used in the MR-30 PG, as well as the substantial meticulous labor involved in handcrafting individual rifles, add up to an expensive rifle package. There are lower cost accuracy packages for shooters that do not require the extreme durability and precise repeatable accuracy this system delivers. Those of you who have been behind the rifle in critical situations already know there is no substitute for having the very best. Informed administrations are also aware of the liability exposure which results from fielding less than state of the art equipment.

A sample of an aluminum stocked MR-30 PG, after 30 days of continuous intense testing and evaluation in rugged conditions, maintained repeatable accuracy to the point of being able to win First Place in the International Tactical Rifleman’s Championships, the Carlos Hathcock Shootoff and the Golden Egg Shoot. The EGG Shoot consisted of dialing in a cold shot at 500 yards and making a hit on a chicken egg sized target with a single shot. Numerous other precision shoot offs have been won with this state of the art rifle, including numerous entries into the One Mile Club, which requires hitting an 11" x 16" target at 1800 yards. More MR-30 PG rifles than any other types combined have made entry into the OMC. The D&L MR30PG rifle won 1st place in the 2019 international sniper competition in Bulgaria.

Features included in the MR-30 Professional Grade rifle system:

  • Complete accurizing of a new select rifle action in the caliber of choice.
  • A heavy duty bolt handle and body are used for reliable operation in the harshest of conditions.
  • The extractor and ejector are polished and fitted for reliable function.
  • The bolt body is vented. In the unlikely event of a pierced primer, high pressure gases can be vented away from the shooter.
  • Proper striker springs installed for reliable ignition.
  • New trigger group installed and tested for safety and reliability at a reasonable pull weight. The trigger group is finished for corrosion resistance.
  • The recoil lug is an ultra rugged integral steel lug, over twice the size of the common factory lug. This adds increased surface area and rigidity to the system.
  • The finest precision barrel is fitted to the select receiver, a premium stainless steel barrel. The chamber and throat are specifically cut, and the barrel specifically rifled (twisted) for the cartridge and bullet being fired. 18"-30" barrels are common lengths. It has enough weight to shoot extremely well off the bipod or front rest. (Support under the rear if the stock is also recommended for best performance.) The muzzle can feature a recessed and protected precision crown or muzzle brake. Muzzle brakes are recommended for magnum cartridge barrels.
  • The select actions use a rigid bolt stop.
  • The MR-30 PG is corrosion protected by a special finishing process following the machine work. Carbon steel parts can be finished in matte hard chrome. Over coatings are applied to add color or camo to stainless steel. Under extreme field conditions, where the outer surface may be cut through, the hard chrome or stainless steel underneath will still be in place to resist corrosion. Scope rings can be treated with the same process. Matte black scopes are recommended. (Coating scopes can dry the O-rings and is not recommended.) On a camouflage rifle, the rings can be camouflaged to break up the black scope lines and/or the scope camo taped.
  • The stock is fully adjustable for length of pull and cheek piece height. This allows for the rifle to be fitted to the individual shooter or compensate for cold/hot weather clothing. The butt features an effective recoil pad. The stock is over finished, similar to the barreled action.
  • The stock design for the MR-30 PG is truly state of the art for the professional tactical marksman.
  • It sets the standard in field durability. No wood, kevlar, or fiberglass is used. No action bedding to go bad or internal bedding blocks to come loose from a composite material. The D & L Tactical stock is a rigid aluminum system.
  • The stock design allows for substantial free float clearance between the barrel and the forearm. The troublesome internal magazine has been eliminated and replaced with a reliable DBM (detachable box magazine). The MR30PG rifle has an integrated, selective magazine lock feature to avoid losing the detachable box magazine from the rifle under field conditions. (Note: The magazine lock should be in the 'unlocked' position to eject magazines from the rifle, and while inserting magazines into the rifle).
  • The stock features an ambidextrous pistol grip design of the same configuration as the popular 1911 auto pistol. The stock utilizes 1911 pistol stocks or an AR-15 style pistol grip.
  • A log book pouch and angle indicator can also be attached to the stock, as well as an integral level and compass.
  • A bipod mount can be fitted to the stock.
  • The underside of the butt stock features an elevation wheel for precisely fine tuning the elevation alignment and creating a 3rd point of ground contact for a rock steady hold (a monopod).
  • Heavy duty attachment rings should be fitted to scope and base for superior rigidity. The scope needs to be mechanically leveled with the rifle.
  • The MR-30 PG rifle system can be custom fit in a top quality travel vault for the utmost in system protection during shipment. (Vault size and cost will vary with rifle dimensions).
  • An MR-30 PG maintenance kit is available. The kit consists of a one piece coated cleaning rod, bore guide, patches, brushes, jags, and accessories. Marksman's choice is recommended as a bore cleaner.

Dual Sighting with MR30 Compact Rifles

Shooters often want the capability of having both iron sights and an optic sight on their rifle. This is no problem when mounting a 1x red dot optic in conjunction with iron sights. The iron and 1x sights can be mounted to enable shooters to use the iron sights right through the non-magnified optic. However, many shooters want the capability of using a low powered variable optic on their rifle, in addition to iron sights. This often leads to neither the variable optic or the iron sights being in a position for a perfect cheek weld to the stock, or the use of fimsey folding sights with mediocre performance. Serious shooters demand the best performance from their fast action rifles, so DLS designed dual sighting for the compact MR30 to meet their requirements.

First, ultra rugged, low profile, machined-into-zero fixed sights are integrated into the rifle. The rugged 1/2" thick one piece rear notch sight is quad bolted and blended into the rifle in a proven forward mounted 'express' position. A favorite for those who travel in dangerous game country. The front sight is banded, bolted and permanently pinned to the barrel. Using a live fire process, the sights are then machined into final zero and blended into the rifle. The sighting height allows for an optimum cheek weld. The sighting arrangement allows for very quick sighting, and superior night sighting when used with a rifle mounted white light. The sights are capable of generations of field use without the loss of zero.

A specifically designed low rail allows for use of the iron sights right over the top of the rail, as well as variable magnification rifle scope mounting. The rail is quad bolted, pinned and blended into the rifle for ruggedness. Standard height scope rings can be used to position the scope for an optimum cheek weld to the stock, and still allow the objective lens of the scope to pass over the low mounted iron sights.

The shooter with dual sighting capability can choose what best suits his shooting environment. Even under field conditions it is simple to go from optic to iron and back. The MR30 cheek piece slides up and out of the stock, and the scope and rings can be removed as one unit. This allows for a lower cheek position on the rifle stock, in perfect alignment with the low profile iron sights already zeroed and in place on the rifle. Reattaching the scope/ring unit, along with the standard cheek piece allows for an excellent cheek weld and eye alignment with the magnified optic. The cheek piece is adjustable to best fit for each shooter.
